To explore the operation characteristics of air conditioning cooling water system in the dry and hot climate zone, this paper taking the air conditioning system of an office building in Urumqi as an example, establishes a simulation model of the air conditioning system using the TRNSYS platform to examine the system’s operation characteristics under different control strategies. The results show that the lower wet bulb temperature in the dry and hot climate zone leads to a lower outlet water temperature of the cooling tower, creating favorable conditions for the utilization of the large temperature difference cooling water technique. After adopting a variable frequency water pump in the air conditioning cooling water system, compared with the fixed frequency pump system, the system’s SCOPawill increase by 8.9%. Additionally, by increasing the temperature difference to 8 ℃, a further 5% improvement can be achieved. In the dry and hot climate zone, adopting a variable frequency pump in the air conditioning cooling water system should consider the comprehensive effect of increasing the temperature difference of cooling water to reduce the operation energy consumption of the air conditioning system.
